Re: The future form of the Army

AFAIK there are Boxer, Man and Jackal flatbeds available. Pretty sure there was a prototype flatbed Foxhound variant. Stormer had one as well. Maybe something will come out of the FV432 replacement program next year. I would love to see a wheeled/ tracked pair of vehicles using the same modules/ com...

Re: The future form of the Army

To my mind, one thing that is missing is a wheeled deep-fires capability to support 1 Division. Initially, keeping the 14 Archer and acquiring (say) 24 HIMARS equivalent (potentially based on a more compact platform, for air-portability) would go some way. Eventually replace the Archers with (say) t...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

"Nicholas Peterson" isn't British or Australian - neither of those would refer to the "Royal Army". He sounds like a fake "source" to me. Eurasian Times has a long-standing habit of parroting CCP messaging. Relatively low-key - it also often publishes puff pieces for so...

Re: The war in Ukraine

There have been rumours that Ukraine has had to push launchers closer to the front, to compensate for lack of other ammunition. Launchers are relatively easy to replace - it's the radar and command facilities that would be a real blow - takes the whole battery out (though they are said to have two s...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

One thing that perhaps needs to be considered is an increase in the number of nuclear warheads and tactical nukes. Not an issue currently with the US tightly tied to NATO, but when that changes who is going to fill that gap. Having a credible deterrence against Russia above all else is key. I seem ...

Re: The war in Ukraine

Reported the A-50 released numerous flares but as the S-200 uses semi-active RF seeker would have had no effect. There are videos circulating on X, showing the A-50 dumping strings of flares. One missile appears to track some of the flares and detonate, with a second detonating a few seconds later,...

So you got your knickers in a twist over this? Russia seems to be producing large numbers of tanks & APCs after leaving them to rust in a field for 50 years. Ukraine also just dug 10,000 maxims out of a warehouse somewhere to convert into anti-UAV systems And responded with this Are you trying t...

Not sure you're quite aware of the difference between geological storage and active mining sites. I don't think you are either. Both the ones I suggested were taken from a list of inactive salt mines (and Billingham was put up for sale not so long ago) And, of course, active mines also have inactiv...

For the ammunition side, then any L118 specific manufacturing equipment should also be stored if/when the plant is decommissioned. it's not a stick it in a shed job. Russia seems to be producing large numbers of tanks & APCs after leaving them to rust in a field for 50 years. Ukraine also just d...

I'll be surprised if they all go out of service by then. Hopefully the MOD/ Treasury have learned their lesson & they start building warehouse to hold much of this equipment as a wartime reserve, because we clearly can't ramp up production as fast as we did in the 1930s Edit: Just noticed - look...

Re: Archer Class Patrol & Training Vessel (PBR) (RN)

Agreed that the P2000 replacement don't need to be a single class. The 15m Officer Training variant of the SEA class would be a good replacement for the University boats, though the larger units may need more than one boat. The 18m might be even better Should we actually need to rapidly develop a cl...
