Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Just bloody typical that I was dragged off kicking and screaming on a family holiday when all this was going on. So thanks to everybody for all the pictures and videos. Curiously, not much coverage on Spanish tv.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

@swoop: "Possibilities of getting 5-6 carriers in total, which is significant in comparison to the US."-Even more significant given that all the Chinese carriers will likely be in the Pacific most of the time. US may actually be outnumbered. F35Bs for Japan and Australia? I believe they've...

"Improvement Project." So not repairs then. Anyone else noticed how industrial sites are now called employment parks. Everything is spin nowadays.

I'm waiting for one of the naysayers to point out how un-stealthy they are while in hover mode.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Haven't seen the beeb coverage but ITN did at least - grudgingly and right at the end of the piece - admit that taxpayers would not be fitting the bill. BTW all you lubbers out there - ALL boats leak.

Re: Ground Based Air Defence

Just come across this video on youtube, sorry if it's already been posted:

So we've got Sea Ceptor for the navy, now Land Ceptor for the army. Whatever will they name the air force version, if it happens at all.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Depends what you mean by "maximum airwing." They were designed to operate 36 F35s and 4 Crowsnest. The hangars IIRC hold 22 aircraft but with plenty of parking space on deck. Also depends on just what you're carrying. Chinooks and Apaches don't fold . Well, not if you want to use them afte...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Re: river I/I.5 and II patrol vessels

Hmmm.

"The work enabled by the £287 million contract will include the building of HMS Tamar and HMS Spey as well as support for all five of the new ships."

What support and for how long, I wonder. :|
