Re: Section infantry weapons

Regarding the withdrawal of the LSW, LMG and 60mm mortar I spotted this post on Arrse (yes, I know it's from Arrse, but nevertheless ...) dated 1st August and thought it might shed some light on the situation. "I'm sure everyone here would like some more info. I went and had a chat with a Lt Co...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft General Discussion

Just a thought, but what are the possibilities of extending Typhoon beyond it's 2140 OSD? Plenty examples, the US paving the way with the B52 ... and everything else to be frank. With the UK; Puma (rebuilds) and Chinook (rebuilds and new), to say nothing of the L85 (A3 on the way). Why not Theseus's...

Re: Section infantry weapons

I should add, again, that the idea to move to GPMG plus 7 L85 per section is just a rumour ... on the *Army Rumour Service* (arrse) website ... which contains quite a lot of bollocks sometimes, and should be taken with a large pinch of salt. As armchaircivvy says the aim may well be to move belt-fed...

Re: Section infantry weapons

I know we have (now to be "had" if the reports are correct) the Minimi "para" but can't find anything about a "para" GPMG, even on the FN website. I do know that a number of Minimi 7.62 were purchased by the MoD of SF etc. but as I say, if reports are correct, the secti...

Re: Section infantry weapons

So, any chance we are going to see modifications to our GPMGs, ie shorter barrel etc., and will we see the reintroduction of the gunner's number two? I am all in favour of this by the way. Further, what about the L86 LSW, and what about the L129 DMS? I believe the LSW (Long Silly Weapon ;-)) fell ou...

Re: Section infantry weapons

Okay, saw this today via arrse: https://www.arrse.co.uk/community/threads/lmg-retired-from-service.262018/ Suggested that the section is moving to 1 GPMG and 7 L85, all part of Project Payne which, as we know, is designed to reduce the load carried by section infantry. How is this going to reduce th...

Re: UK's successor submarines

Hello everyone, I am new to this site. Just one thing to say, in all the earlier discussion about the response to a Russian tactical nuclear attack one hopes people have not forgotten that the National Deterrent does have a *limited* sub-strategic capability.
