Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

"Indeed. And the UK seizing an Iranian tanker wasn’t very bright."

or was it?
It showed what RM's can do.
It proved why we have a frigate in the gulf
It may prove we need more frigates

Can someone advise me of the following:
1. Approx cost of a new current RAF Chinook and Merlin in troops transport configuration.
2. How comparable are the running cost.
Thanks

A quick observation / comment. The B2 rivers are more sophisticated than B1, but have a bigger crew. Is the extra crew worth the extra capacity?

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

Spot on Shark Bait. good analogy. As have been said many times before, a better option is to specialise in one activity only (for me ASW, local to UK). This way you save money for kit and crew and maintenance but still have a "tier one" capability.

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

The bigger / more "flat toppy" the Ocean replacement is, (not that we will ever get a direct replacement,) the more likely one or both QE /POW will be sold. A simple (thus cheaper) "helicopter Carrier" with NO well decks, NO Ski Ramps etc will offer the best sustainable solution....

We will have max of 12 for some years. Any additional will be USMC.

With the "issues" with the USS Ford it will create a partial solution for both of us.
