Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

One thinks that this is slightly OTT :-

Quote
Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said:

“These mighty ships will form the next generation of the Royal Navy fleet. The Type 31 frigates will be a fast, agile and versatile warship, projecting power and influence across the globe.
Unquote. :lolno:

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

Lord Jim , agree on your suggestion, the problem I see is that when someone posts news it then turns into a debate on the news which then depending on your insider knowledge becomes quickly to some fantasy discussions. Having clearer guidelines and mods actively managing the News thread deleting po...

Re: RN anti-ship missiles

In regards to xav's above post where does this leave the T26 missile fit. Even if the Anglo/French FCAS goes ahead it looks like T26 will have nothing in it's Mk41 silos for a while unless they extend this project to include it. https://www.navalnews.com/naval-news/2019/08/uk-mod-further-details-int...

Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]

Not convinced of the factual accuracy of this piece but the insinuation that New Zealand is lining up for an order of 3 Type 26's is very interesting.....if true. If only the T26's really could be 'dumbed down' to a £250m general purpose frigate. Little truth in that statement I suspect. https://ww...

Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]

About as realistic as you sticking to the "News Only" part of the thread. I know that they will not do that, but sincerely doubt that any big harm was done by posting that here? Mods can transfer it into another thread if they want. Also, considering the glacial speed of T26 construction,...

Re: RN anti-ship missiles

Although the following article is now a few months old, I can't see that it has been posted on here. It's a long read but does show the complexity of the situation as a whole. Part 3 [future issues to resolve] is interesting :- https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201719/cmselect/cmdfence/1071/10...

Re: RN anti-ship missiles

HAs anyone seen any info on a possible ship launched version of the Sea Venom, like we did for the Sea Skua? Can't find a great deal of info on that, but they do seem to suggest they have that option. Under 'maritime superiortiy' download sea venom data sheet, see very last sentence. https://www.mb...

Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]

WTF not one of the above posts has anything to do with this being a T26 News Only thread. Is it really to much to ask to adhere to this. Though I realise you all like to get your own points of view across, this is not the thread for it.

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

This is the T31 thread right ? Although the answer given is pretty dumb. If the MOD does not know by now what the role of the ship, operating environment and future threats are then something is seriously wrong at fraggle rock. Parliamentary written answers 9th July :- Q Asked by Mr Kevan Jones (Nor...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

This is the reasons the RN have often put substantial shielding around its missile systems to give them some protection form sea spray. They did it with the Ikara launchers and have decided to do the same with both the T-23 and T-45. It is interesting that they do not appear to have done this on th...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Just as people did not expect to encounter any problems of that nature in '82. Sod's law says "what can go wrong Will Go Wrong", Hopefully it won't, but belt & braces are better than either one on its own. Your memories of the Arctic convoys must still be really vivid, if you really c...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Don't forget that the RN is the only navy that has fought a full-on campaign with another Navy in the missile age. (the Falkland Islands). Maybe other Navies are happy continuing (in ignorance) of the problems that may occur in a full-on conflict, rather than just in exercises. Are you seri...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I have been considering the role performed by the "Mushrooms". Back in '82, difficulties were experienced with opening the launcher "boxes" for Seawolf, sometimes preventing missile launch. These were largely due to the effects of salt water corrosion in prolonged exposure to th...
