Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]

WTF not one of the above posts has anything to do with this being a T26 News Only thread. Is it really to much to ask to adhere to this. Though I realise you all like to get your own points of view across, this is not the thread for it.

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

This is the T31 thread right ? Although the answer given is pretty dumb. If the MOD does not know by now what the role of the ship, operating environment and future threats are then something is seriously wrong at fraggle rock. Parliamentary written answers 9th July :- Q Asked by Mr Kevan Jones (Nor...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

This is the reasons the RN have often put substantial shielding around its missile systems to give them some protection form sea spray. They did it with the Ikara launchers and have decided to do the same with both the T-23 and T-45. It is interesting that they do not appear to have done this on th...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Just as people did not expect to encounter any problems of that nature in '82. Sod's law says "what can go wrong Will Go Wrong", Hopefully it won't, but belt & braces are better than either one on its own. Your memories of the Arctic convoys must still be really vivid, if you really c...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Don't forget that the RN is the only navy that has fought a full-on campaign with another Navy in the missile age. (the Falkland Islands). Maybe other Navies are happy continuing (in ignorance) of the problems that may occur in a full-on conflict, rather than just in exercises. Are you seri...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I have been considering the role performed by the "Mushrooms". Back in '82, difficulties were experienced with opening the launcher "boxes" for Seawolf, sometimes preventing missile launch. These were largely due to the effects of salt water corrosion in prolonged exposure to th...

Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]

IMHO the US has made a big mistake in dismissing a clean sheet vessel. Seems to me that the FFG(X) is turning into an amalgam of many things. You would have thought that after LCS they might have learned something, it appears not.

I think they may well rue the day that T26 was overlooked.

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

Sorry to appear churlish but I disagree. When I see new posts on a "News Only " thread then as a pragmatist that is what I am expecting to see. We have a perfectly good general discussions thread for current and future escorts, where people can speculate and give their personal opinions. S...

So now the MOD even goes to the lengths of altering the conditions of the deal, to help foreign shipyards bid for the FSSS :-

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

Am not certain from the article's wording Xav. Is this just a re-report that TKMS has "won a place" as one of the finalists alongside Leander and Arrowhead on the starting design aspect, or is this saying that TKMS has actually won the whole program and will be the one who makes the ships...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

Why would they want to give away any design details to the other contenders, just to please the likes of us. I have seen nothing from Babcocks to say A140 is still on the table we just think it is . However as a British Tax payer I do feel I have a right to see something for my money at leased I ca...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

For me the MOD has handed out 3 5 million pound design contracts to 3 teams yet we only know what one will look like and in 1 year a winner will be picked. We think Babcocks is pushing on with A140 but we don't know as they have removed type 31 from there site and we also think the Atles is going f...

Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]

What happens if Sturgeon gets her way and Scotland becomes independent. Will the RN be happy with having ships named after a foreign country, particularly under the circumstances. :wtf:
