Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)
You are aware that MaaF actually pay for this service? These ships give a shed load of sea time and excellent opportunities for Sailors and Officers to learn. Yes they will be busier with no deal. However so will the small numbers of boarder force cutters and you don’t see the Home Office rushing to...

We need hulls with capability. End of.
We now have 13 hulls with functioning MFS. As of 31 Jan T45 had MFS decommissioned with 6 hulls in Devonport that leaves 7 in total. Not great

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
No need to speculate. I am not on about the Ops Room on the Albions but the C2 suite next door to the Ops room. That is where the magic is performed. QE have S1850 and CMS1 but it’s the space and kit outfit for the Amphibious and Land force Commander to plan and control that no other ship will have....

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
The C2 that the Albions gift is not and will not be replicated in any platform we have or are projected to have in the near future. We are not talking a CMS but an altogether different beast. If the Albions go your C2, as well as heavy lift goes. It has been said many time but QE/PoW and Bays do not...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
Off topic. The problem the Navy has is that it fails completely to align the reserve to its whole time branches. If they choose to do this, then by mobilising individuals over a five year rolling period you could backfill the rn with crews for at least three opv at anyone time freeing up nearly one ...

The ammunition for the Mk8 mod 1 is still manufactured and it’s osd is not until the last 45 leaves service.
It is not being carried fwd to the 26, but if the 31 has a 15 year life span then it’s a no brainier!

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
There should be either 4 or 5 Mk 8 mod 1 turrets available already from the type 22 and type 42 that have decommissioned without having to utilise type 23 fits.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
What it is not is armour or steel cladding. It serves a specific purpose and has been used for years on all RN warships. Can't tell you what it is, ( I do know) but it doesn't need to be publicised. Look to images of former ships being towed out of Pompey. You may notice that their superstructuresha...

Re: Scotland (Political Thread)
I don't think it comes down to anything other than democracy. People are able to vote yes/no as they choose. As for warship building, if Scotland votes yes, so? I have been in Barrow when they tried building boats and surface ships, it was a disaster. Labour and the Conservatives have wrecked the fo...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
The RNR already has an amphibious warfare branch. The missing trick is aligning RNR branches with RN branches. There is a pool of 3000 odd reservists that can be utilised, the RN seem reticent to utilise and realign the Reserve though.

Am awfy sure Bulwarks crew has moved to Albion and that's how this bad boy is going to work. The RN doesn't have the manpower for both Albions, or even two QEs and Ocean also.

Re: The Falkland Islands
I joined a 42 in 88 and they were still in the process of sealing up the bulkheads to make the watertight doors and bulkheads truly airtight. The report into the shinny sheffs loss is as relevant today as it was then. Her 965 was emitting and her ops room closed up in defence watches, she had no fil...
