Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)

I think you will find that 17 Sqdn. now has 4 x aircraft and Marham has 30. Although the expectation had been for 3 and 31, but AFAIK the third aircraft from the previous batch was delivered to Edwards Air Force Base (not Marham).

Re: General UK Defence Discussion

Failure to adequately fund Defence in the forthcoming budget should definitely become a resigning matter for both the Chancellor and the PM.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

May be so, but then it was not designed as a dedicated CSG/TAPS escort! It was designed as a GLOBAL COMBAT SHIP, capable of (if not mainly) singleton deployments. One of unintended consequences the cut in T26 numbers “to save money” has left expensively outfitted ships, that in practice may be restr...

They were actually fitted (and then subsequently removed) during the last 4+ years.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

How about what is on the near side rather than the )agreed) Merlin aft of it?

Not sure if they would mix the aircraft types on a lift though?

So did I, but the eighth might just be on the Forward Lift (I could not retain the focus as I zoomed in).

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Perhaps you would have preferred for to “sit out” the biggest NATO exercise in years and remain in Portsmouth harbour until such time as her 3 x Phalanx are re-installed? Ark Royal IV, during the Cold War even involved in a collision with a Russian Kotlin Class destroyer, which had crossed under her...

A considered response!

It is almost a certainty that she will not be going anywhere near a likelyhood of Missile/Drone Swarms, unless she were to be adequately escorted.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

The point is, that with (low) price and (basic) armaments, the first T31 will be in the water this year. The remaining four of (hopefully just) the first batch will follow in fairly short order. The T31 are needed now, as the T23 GP’s are coming to the end of their lives. Augmentation of armaments a...

Possibly “Pontoon” when coming alongside, “Patience” when a shaft coupling fails or even “Snap” when a Tow-line parts?

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

There is no such thing as a Hanger on an Aircraft Carrier; or a Destroyer, Frigate, RFA Supply ship/Tanker either. What they all do have are HANGARS! Yes, the F35 and other Helicopters might well be in the hangar, or they may not. All I did was to offer a (rather tounge-in-cheek) suggestion as to wh...
