Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
There's talk now on UKDJ of her docking down in Amsterdam rather than a trip north to Rosyth. Also some discussion that her propeller hit something during her departure from Pompey? If that's true either the Navigator made a mess of the departure or the RN needs to do an urgent survey to check the c...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
A mistake to admit that the Chinese were detected. Far better to give the Chinese false peace of mind and not to give away our detection capabilities. They will now be adapting their tech and tactics accordingly. Let's hope we had them pinged at far greater range than we have admitted in public.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
NPC well respected in the mob but he royally f**ked up. There's a lot more to this story that the media are not aware of. He would have been better off if he crashed the ship! He would have stood a better chance of getting promoted!

Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)
Anyone with any insight or views as to why the RN SSN in the Eastern Med did not participate in the Syrian strikes? Lots of press about the boat playing hide and seek with two Kilos, a Russian MPA and two frigates. Do we think the boat was detected or that the risk of detection during a TLAM firing ...

You wouldn't want to be on the flight deck (or bridge wing!) of the QE when an escorting T45's Sampson was radiating on full power! I don't think a sailor would have to worry too much about contraception afterwards!SDL wrote:

That sail past is definitely sped up. Giveaway is the speed of the crew rushing down the ship's waist. They look like something from a Benny Hill sketch!Sunk at Narvik wrote:Wow! That 1850 certainly spins at a fair old rate and nice to see Dragon still has her dragon

Re: Albion Class Amphibious Assault Ships (LPD) (RN)
I find it disgusting that the Services are forced to choose which arm or leg to cut off to save what is merely a rounding error on social welfare spending! We either have capable fighting forces or we don't. Amphibiousity is key plank of UK defence/Naval doctrine. To cut the LPDs is to force the RN ...

Re: Type 23 Frigate (Duke Class) (RN)
I was both aft section base officer and a DCO on a T23. No evidence that I know of to suggest they were more prone to incidents than other RN escorts. Unless of course they have gone downhill since I left the service in 2006!!

Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN)
I left the Mob just as the T45s were entering service. I heard through friends still serving that the problem seems to stem from how the RN operates the propulsion system. I'm certainly no engineer, but I've been informed that the all electric concept was originally conceived for and works very well...

Re: UK's successor submarines
Livingston and Corbyn are convinced the Cold War is no more. I am informed from irrefutable sources that the Russians had not one, not two but six, yes six boats (submarines to the uneducated) in Scottish waters and UK areas of interest in the North Sea over the Christmas and New Year period busy ga...

Re: UK's successor submarines
Since we won't be building any additional T45s, how about we use some great names beginning with 'D' such as Defiant, Dreadnought, Devastation, Destruction or perhaps even Desperate!
