Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

As long as Project Tempest was a thing France and Germany was never going to let FCAS fail.

Hopefully having both will keep both sides on their toes.

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

Hey if 11 years to integrate Meteor on the F-35 is not a prime example of it being "easily modifiable" then I guess there is no pleasing some people [/sarcasm]

Never dawned on me till now but because of the soft launch system it doesn't light up the night sky when fired like after system.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

What is missing, which is a problem throughout UK defence establishment, is a lack of transparency. Everything is hidden behind all too convenient a veil of operational or worse commercial sensitivity. US senators and reps would be banging on the doors of the Pentagon\White House if a similar lack ...

Re: Type 23 Frigate (Duke Class) (RN) [News Only]

It seemed a bit strange we had heard nothing of the Type 23s since taking over from the Type 45. I wonder if the tempo has changed down there.

Re: General UK Defence Discussion

And if they keep cutting before this master plan is achieved? Wont that leave us in a spot needing to spend more money trying to get what ever capability we need back?

Taking a breath with the hatchet while all that is figured out surely much be the first step.

Re: General UK Defence Discussion

In fact I heard recently the Defence Secretary saying that if the 3% was given tomorrow, the MOD wouldn’t be able to spend it. Sorry but he is out right lying. There are cuts planned across all 3 services that could be stopped with more funding but that would be admitting mistakes in an election ye...

Unless we see major progress with HMS Glasgow, I suspect we will have 2 sitting in the dry docks getting fitted out. (I seem to remember that is what happened with the type 45's)

Re: General UK Defence Discussion

It’s hardly surprising as absolutely no one appears to be able to articulate what the increase would be spent on. Certainly no MPs or commentators in the media are proposing anything specific but lots of complaining about how terrible everything is in defence. Because that would be highlighting pro...

Re: The war in Ukraine

Its not a small missile you would expect a AEW&C to be able to see a S-200 coming, if it cant see that what chance does it have against an F-22 or F-35 :wtf: I don't think any air force if that incompetent to shot down their own AEW&C  I just wonder if we are seeing the true capabilit...

Re: Vanguard Class Nuclear Ballistic Missile Submarine (SSBN) (RN)

I suspect its a little of column a and a little of column b. While I don't expect (and never want to see) any hard details on this, the "Trust me bro" reaction from the MOD does not inspire confidence. In this day and age with lunatics invading their neighbors and considerable amounts of m...

Re: Vanguard Class Nuclear Ballistic Missile Submarine (SSBN) (RN)

MOD quote however we are confident that the anomaly was event specific, and therefore there are no implications for the reliability of the wider Trident missile systems and stockpile If this is a 2nd failure of the system and given current world events, is this really a good enough response? :eh:

Interesting video, while 1 F-35 is landing the follow up F-35 is already hovering next to the deck waiting for to land.

Note how they chose to show the F-35s with ASRAAM in the video where as the ones already on deck didn't have them.

Re: The war in Ukraine

This one seem to be sitting off the coast rather than open water like the rest, mostly likely didn't expect any drones that close to land.
