Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Jonas. This post is directed at you. I thought that the post would make interesting reading for those with a genuine interest. Bearing i mind that most of the posts on the forum are based on speculation in one way or another. This programme is rightly classified, much of what goes on lies outside th...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I'll happily acknowledge him, but he's just some anonymous poster hiding behind a made up username on another public forum. He claims to have some insight. I thought what he said was interesting. Nuff said.

This has been lifted from another forum but provides useful context and insight in terms of how the ships were designed with survivability in mind: My Recent Posts I have a brief period of spare time from this campaign to free us from the ghastly European Union and can add some clarifications to som...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Top post UJ, couldn't have said it better myself. The RN remains a truly global "bluewater" force. Preparing for, mounting and maintaining hi-tempo, technologically advanced, conceptually balanced carrier strike operations is exactly the thing that will nourish and re-energise today's RN. ...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
UJ, Being an ex-pongo I don't often comment in these sections but I think you are right. Since Nelson, the Royal Navy has always been innovative, aggressive and looking to press home and exploit technological advantages. The RN's ability to deliver highly developed, cutting edge carrier capability i...

Re: Panavia Tornado (RAF)
Downsizer what is wrong with you? You are continually putting people down in a very negative way. This is a discussion board, not an insult board. You have an attitude problem. Perhaps you should try and educate and discuss rather than offer continual condescending put downs. If you don't agree with...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (Army)
Gabrielle is correct. The FV511 is the Infantry Command Vehicle (clue in the title). If necessary the crew have to be able to fight the vehicle and so the turret has a fully functional Rarden and Chain gun. Other than the Comd radio harness fit the turret is exactly the same as a section variant. FO...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (Army)
The FV511 was the Warrior Command version. Two per AI Coy, two in Fire Sp HQ (Alt) and two in BG HQ - Co and 2Ic. The vehicle was configured with a CP rear fit - 2 x VHF sets and an HF guard set. A map board and CP seating arrangement, double rear doors and an arrangement to fit a penthouse out the b...

Re: Future UK Maritime Patrol Options
Babcock run Appledore. They are participating in the UK's new carrier programme and are building world class OPVs. They are not to be sniffed at. Funnily enough, North Devon is one of the most deprived areas of England. It would be nice to see the Govt invest in the more impoverished areas of the UK...

Re: Exercise Prairie Storm
The core of the OPFOR is provided by a nominated Field Army unit and is deployed for a designated exercise period. It is reconfigured and reinforced in order to provided a tailored near-par GENFORCE enemy. BATUS also relies heavily on simulation to provide a "synthetic wrap" designed to em...

OK Geoff B if you want to be pedantic. I'm wrong in that none of the seedcorn guys are crewing USN P3s - everything else stands. I hope you have the wit to understand it!

Re: Future UK Maritime Patrol Options
Worth pointing out that the majority of the RAF's SEEDCORN programme personnel are either crewing legacy P3s (or derivatives) with Aus, NZ Canada and US or P8's with the US. UK will want to procure a technologically cutting edge programme and have it running pronto IOT fill current "Whiteboard&...

Re: FRENCH VCBI
The last CGS was particularly impressed with the French use of VCBI in the latest of France's N African campaigns. There it proved itself to be tough, reliable, hard hitting, maintainable and has an impressive endurance. Given the Army's recent lack of success in delivering a wheeled IFV, the then C...
