Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]

Acoustic tiles. Wonder if they're the exact same type that Submarines get or if they're a slightly different design. Submarines tiles are designed to absorb sonar energy from enemy sonar and deaden sound from within. The role these would appear to fill is primarily to reduce sound from the propulsi...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Awsome !!! UK CSG 2021 ? I really like the Crowsnest merlin, but only 8 x F35b, must be before the usmc come aboard  You missed the one on the aft elevator so it's 9. Probably another 27 crammed into the hangar so she's fully loaded.! What a fantastic model. I also like the way she is sitting...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

https://i.imgur.com/xqktWj4.jpg It's been nibbling my mind - that dark patch near the bow - is that just an area with a recent wash down or is it another landing spot? Is the entire flight deck covered with the higher thermal limit coating or is it just the landing spots? I am pretty sure t...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Her props were fitted in the building dock before she was floated. There is a programme called Mega Shippers and one episode had a part about POW being moved out of the dock. There is a scene where it shows the gock being flooded and the props are clearly visible if only fleetingly.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Superb. ... just brilliant. Cheers. You really can appreciate just how big she is when you take away the island and ramp. It all about perspective. Two islands make her look short and the ramp does nothing to help matters. Throw in the oversize bridge windows and she looks so much smaller than she i...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I think it's the front Island that does it. If you hold your thumb over it on the pictures she looks longer. That does work to an extent, but the thing that really messes with your mind (and its the same with the T45) is the size of the bridge windows and Flyco. They really do have enormous amounts...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Think they are just showing off.
Jealous of all the publicity QE has been getting so decided to show what they can put to sea with right now, something the RN won't be able to do for quite a few years ro come.
Or they could simply be putting the crew through their paces.
I choose jealous...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Very nice photo of French carrier CDG. It carries 30 Raffle M, 2 E2C, 1 NH90 and 1 Dauphin. And I think it is very much crowded. Even if half of them can be stored in the hangar, deck handling will be complicated. HMS QNLZ will carry 24 F35B and 12-15 Merlin, with a few Wildcat, I guess. Thanks to ...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

I hate the high boot line. Especially on th 45's where it rises at the bow and the QE would look better if she sat lower in the water. Bit OT, but it was mentioned.. absolute disgrace about the build quality though.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

https://twitter.com/RoyalNavy/status/1004461556464279552 Great to see them here at last. Just a question about the landing. I see the fan doors are open and the thrust nozzle rotated so it's obviously performing that landing technique to be used on QE where they can return with more fuel and stores...
