Re: RN anti-ship missiles

It is not that massive compared to other launch systems when comparing deck space, though you would probably only get half as many missiles. But it would give you the ability to launch LRASM from the deck rather then a VLS as was the question. Of course if we had put the Mk41 on the T-31 this would...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)

Makes sense - realistically it's almost inevitable we collaborate with either Europe or the US. We don't have the political backing to support the MBTs in service we already have and don't really have any international market share worth defending. Just an observer status. Doubt there's the money f...

Re: Boeing C-17 Globemaster III (RAF)

You may, or may not know that we initially leased the a/c and had to 'handle with care' if we were to (theoretically) hand them back some day. That there is nothing new in this (except throwing caution to the wind :) ) is captured by " “exploit” the existing capability" in the linked arti...

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)

interesting if used by helicopters forces Spear would need alteration to be used by helicopters. It would need a booster rocket to bring it to a speed where the jet could function. This is also the reason why Kongsberg proposes the NSM not the JSM for helicopter use. If I got the gist, the idea was...

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)

My limited understanding is that only the future new variants of F-35B Block 4 a/c will have the capability to use the ASRAAM CSM, Meteor and Spear 3. Block 4 including its new computers and software is $12 billion 2018-2026 development programme with its various iterations, did see mention that th...

Isn't F-35B slated to carry Meteor? Is it  Instead of the six, internal carry AMRAAM ... wonder why the US wouldn't buy the 'clipped wing' version for theirs? Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)

The F-35B can carry up to eight Spear 3 missiles in its internal weapons bay and further missiles on the wing. We'll finally have the stealth bomber (with anything more than free-fall bombs); capable of self-defence (ASRAAMs on wing tips) ... in the early days was described as the first-day-of-war ...

Re: RN anti-ship missiles

Is the interim AShM programme actually funded yet? What is the latest on the FGASW programme, is it still one missile or has it become two with common components? The last I read it was in a bit of trouble as the requirements were contradictory and a single missile would be massively expensive if i...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)

Technically there's a fifth battalion or sixth, but these are Army Reserve units and I doubt their will be equipped with Warrior or Warrior CSP all the time. 5 Rifles paired with 7 Rifles for eg. Can't remember the exact pairing but this may help: https://britisharmedforcesreview.files.wordpress.com...
