[quote="mr.fred"148 for £800m. At about £5.5m each that seems cheap.[/quote]
That is without the APS (60 of them, apparently) and probably without changes to the engines.

Re: Army Command to 2030
The Boxer contract, with production stretching to say 2032, for 500 vehicles has already been signed with KMW and Rheinmetall and there are no CRV and IFV versions. At this point we need to work with the Ajax and Boxer variants that are under contract.

It seems like the national government forces have taken the Tigray capital. Are there any good sources reporting on the battles on the ground?

Re: Integrated Review (previously SDSR 2020)
I am not sure if the non-budget part of the integrated review has been delayed for a year yet. They could just release a short document, without a budget component, titled "Integrated Review" and be done with that term. Didn't they do the same with the Modernising Defence Review two years ...

Re: Integrated Review (previously SDSR 2020)
For a depressing time, you can watch MoD officials refuse to answer any question asked by MPs about the British Army's armoured infantry brigades and armoured fighting vehicles program. The committee hearing mainly covers Ajax, Boxer, Challenger 2 and Warrior, although Bulldog also gets mentioned. h...

Re: Integrated Review (previously SDSR 2020)
The Army is to be cut from 82,000 positions to 75,000 positions according to the Daily Mail. Not all the positions are filled now, so there would be few redundancies. I would personally prioritize the armoured fighting vehicle fleet over saving these unfilled positions, so I am fine with this given ...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)
Lord Jim: 1. As a minor point, there are two Nexter turrets for the CT40 gun: the one on Jaguar and a second one that has been photographed or at least photoshopped onto a Boxer hull. 2. I don't know whether these Nexter turrets support the Generic Vehicle Architecture, which actually formed the bas...

Here is an article by Harry Lye on the gun with a different take than the Twitter thread / Janes article mentioned above.

I do think the export potential of the CTA gun is limited.

A full strike Brigade will be achieved in the early 2030s.” I must have missed that in the original (Army) source? - and the second one then? The quote from the MoD submission to the Defence Committee is Boxer will be at full operating capability in the early 2030s allowing the remaining protected ...

Re: Integrated Review (previously SDSR 2020)
Here is an article from The Telegraph highlighting that by 2025 the British Army will be able to field only two brigades in 3rd Division and one will be presumably an armoured infantry brigade with one Challenger regiment and two Warrior battalions and the other will be some sort of light formation ...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
For a basic comparison, I quickly found the total development budget for the US Small Diameter Bomb Increment II / StormBreaker. It is $2.1 billion in US dollars. In addition, the procurement cost is $3.3 billion. By comparison, $11 million for JNAAM seems like a trivial investment. I am not sure wh...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)
The separate speeches this week by CDS and CGS were all about being light and deployable, which sounds bad for 1) casualties if there is a war and 2) AFV programmes. CDS is the inventor of strike brigades, from an earlier posting, and there are probably more jobs associated with Ajax than Warrior. A...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)
The CT40 while compact has a very unique setup, the idea you could quickly shoe-horn it into an existing turret architecture, that isn't designed to accept it, is day dreaming. Makes sense. We'll see if Warrior CSP gets cancelled and replaced by a Boxer IFV variant. At that point, it is probably be...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)
Julian Nettlefold has claimed "WCSP would be replaced by another variant of Boxer with a Rafael CT40 or 30mm customised turret as chosen by Lithuania." This Israeli turret is unmanned so it wouldn't impact the number of dismounts in the Boxer infantry version. See the brochure below. https...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)
Is point 5 referring to new modular armour for the front of the Hull? Or could it be an add on armour package for both the hull and the "New" turret, basically a TES set for use when deployed operationally. I presume the turrets get new armour as the turrets will be newly manufactured by ...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)
As a guess about NMA, I believe the kits of appliqué armour used in Iraq in 2003 for Challenger 2 were the same kits used for Challenger 1 in Iraq in 1991. Some of the appliqué armour goes on the front hull, so maybe they are replacing that? The original website posting with this info seems rather s...

Julian Nettlefold, the editor of Battlespace magazine, has gone on the record with some of the problems with Ajax and Warrior. I placed the Warrior quotes in the Warrior thread here on the site. Yes and no. The choice of the CT40 canon as GFE equipment on both vehicles is the major cause of problems...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)

Because I brought up Leopard 2's armour before, this thread on another discussion forum is a long and detailed discussion of Leopard 2's armour. I would say 2/3s of the discussion is about Cold War era tanks. There are few comparisons to other modern tanks. It does seem like the new German 2A7v mode...
