Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Someone is going to have to pay a pretty penny to extend the life of T23s by that much... Most already going through extensive Lifex. Already planned to run some until mid 2030s. Still, it’s probably not feasible to keep 9 in service until 2030... this came out today in Navy Lookout... https://www....

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

It would probably be easy and cheap to have T32 be a modified T31, where the 24 CAMM farm goes behind the radar mast (like in the T26), which would enable a full width mission bay amidships, with 8xSSM mounted on top. Add some silencing by mounting the engines on absorbers, add a HMS and a VDS and y...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

The latest models show 24 CAMM and no sonar... I wonder why they don't just transfer the 32 missile farm from the T23s over... I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

So, what does the GFE for the T31 comprise? And of that, what’s being transferred over from the T23s? Simple answer is that we don't know. But very little is likely to be transferred over from the T23s. That’s what I thought, but Ron5 said explicitly that we do know, so I’m curious... do we or do w...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Bear in mind we still don't know exactly what GFE will be fitted to the T31s (do we?)... with all the talk of retiring up to 4 T23s early, there will be plenty of equipment available for the T31s by the time they come online (32xSea Ceptor farms, 30mm guns, ECM, even the hull sonars (although they'...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

The Canadians numbers are for the entire life of the program, not just the build. The UKs is t just for build either, most percurment costs now include I believe around a 5-10 support package. Even though not full life cost it shows the cost of building in Canada is far higher than the UK. Regardle...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Although I agree the 114mm gun could (should?) be replaced by a 57mm one and an extra 16 Sylver cells installed, an even cheaper option would be to phase out the Aster 15 and replace them with Aster 30 Block 1 NT for ABM and just add 12 ExLS cells in front of the Sylver launcher to recover short/med...

Re: RN anti-ship missiles

This may be an oversimplification, but if all the RN needs is an INTERIM SSM, why not just upgrade the 17 Harpoon sets to Block II+? The cost per upgrade kit is $170k (and a little more to upgrade to ER, which has a range of ~300km) and Harpoon has an all-weather radar guidance, which is better for ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I heard 16 cells, which makes sense, but then multiple more recent sources mention 12, which is weird for MK-41 and is why I mentioned 12 (4x3) ExLS, which are already quad-pack CAMM-ready... should be a simple and relatively cheap job to install them...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

If it’s true that there’s room for 12 cells in front of the Sylver launchers on T45, it should be relatively simple to add 12 ExLS cells and quad-pack Sea Ceptor... that would give T45 a 96 missile load for AA for very little cost...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

CAMM-ER is wider than CAMM and can only be dual-packed into Sylver VLS; that’s what the Italians are planning for their PPA... replace the Aster 15 with dual-packed CAMM-ER...
