Re: 2019 UK General Election
My real concern is how it seems the SNP have regained a lot the ground they lost at the last election. They still don't have an overall majority in terms of voter share but now Blackford and Sturgeon and saying they have a mandate for another indyref it's a bit worrying.

Yes, slip of the keyboard..ArmChairCivvy wrote:I guess you meant to say "would give?"... anyway, there are good ways to get the close up fire-power that can follow you, rather than the 155 mm's that need a top-up, in the tow, at all times

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
For me the Stryker was the obvious choice, yes it's an older vehicle less well protected compared to the Boxer but it is a mature platform with a countless number of variations. It remains to be seen just how practical the module aspect of Boxer will be and if vehicles end up with modules being semi...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
My only real gripe with the Boxer is that it's troop carrying capabilities is no better than a Bradley, aka crap and with far less firepower. I can only hope as the procurement develops we order modules with a bit more 'punch'. What is wrong with carrying eight dismounts plus crew in an APC? That i...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
I feel truly humbled having my ignorance of such a fine machine so cruelly exposed. How will the world's air forces handle their embarrassment for similarly fallen into the yankee web of deceipt by buying f-15s by the hundreds. No need for the melodrama. Not contesting that the F-15 isn't a fine ai...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
As others had mentioned the Tornado F3 was a perfectly capable platform for it's designed purpose. A high speed, high altitude bomber interceptor, it was never intended to 'turn n burn' with conventional fighter aircraft so it's a testament to it's pilots and crews who ensured they were able to punc...

It's a nice touch they used a local firm to make these spacer units, as a local to the area it made me smile.

Re: Williamson sacked over Huawei leak
Under normal circumstances I would be inclined to agree, but we are dealing with a government that has had at least 36 Cabinet departures (a record for a single government i believe) and where it's almost been accepted as routine. A minister resigns because of a disagreement and May finds another la...

If he did do it, at least he had the balls to risk his career by letting us know this current government we prepared (or at least considered) to sell us even further down the river to the Chinese. I understand the need for secrecy when it comes to matters of national security, but what do you do whe...

Don't see how possibly he can be given a fair trial, especially if they insist on doing it in NI.

The Indians are also claiming to have shot down a F-16, but the Pakistani Airforce are denying one was being used at the time. Nothing like muddying the waters further in this volatile situation.

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)
Is there any particular reason we are sticking with the Warrior? (I mean it was a good platform in it's day and at first glance it makes sense to upgrade it like other countries are doing to their IFVs). However we are in the process of introducing the Ajax family of vehicles to replace the CVR(T)s,...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I wonder if the old King George V drydock in Southampton could be another potential option? Close proximity to Portsmouth and should be large enough to accommodate the carriers. Though if its going to cost a pretty penny to bring back into use you may as well spend the money on rebuilding a Dock in ...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)
Would such a programme, if implemented in full, allow the OSD of the CR2 to be pushed further back? The other issue is how much cheaper would such a programme be compared to purchasing new MBTs. I don't see why not, the Americans seem to be content with continued development with the M1 tank (I adm...
