Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
i wasn't expecting to see a F-35 on board.... Some bod on Twitter said that it was a Marham one that had 'issues' which meant they were not happy about it flying home without being near a landing spot if required, I guess the F35B would fry a container ship should she ever need to emergency land on...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Just a general question really; with a general election now certainly happening in December where will this leave the T31 if the contract isn’t signed by the time a new government is formed... IF, and by that I mean a large IF, a certain member of the Labour Party becomes PM I can’t imagine him seei...

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)
As well as the six UK aircraft, up to 4 from the USMC will be joining them. It will be nice if we get to see them all on deck at same time, plus of course the deployed Helicopters. Call me boring but I want a hangar pic. I just remember how cramped Ark Royal looked on her farewell voyage and she on...

Another article on the news that they’ve won. I imagine it’ll be a few more months before we get a better idea of chosen armament etc.

https://www.savetheroyalnavy.org/is-the-type-31e-frigate-competition-winner-about-to-be-announced/ Report on Type 31 activities at DSEI. I’ve never noticed the MOD wording of having a vessel “ in the water” by 2023 until now; the article reports that they’ve accepted a delay due to the competition b...

And for those who are interested, here’s a good thread on the findings of the investigation into the live fire exercise incident on the CR2 in 2017 at Castkemartin with the link to the official report below that

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
Is anyone else treating the whole “will be in service by 2023” line with a massive pinch of salt? Im half expecting them to run down the T23 numbers right down before we see T31 in service, or am I being cynical of this brilliantly run programme?

Can't remember, but are they using the opportunity to do further tests at sea? Are they out for a long period then dry dock at Rosyth, or is it a straight transit up there? Dry docking still planned for summer last I heard so I guess we’ll have to watch this space https://www.gov.uk/government/news...

Used the existing turret, gutted it, chopped bits off, added lots and went from there. No way would the budget allow a complete new buildmr.fred wrote: There are a lot of tell-tales that it's the British turret under there and not a new build.

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)
There's been chatter about the appointments of the next heads of the RAF & RN. Surprising choices as more senior names were overlooked and explained by saying Williamson wants younger guys with transformational mindsets. Just a passing thought but what if "transformational mindsets" i...
