Re: Warthog (ATTC) (Army)

They should send the the Warthogs lock, stock and barrel to the Falklands and transfer them to the garrison ORBAT. Enough to support a platoon+ move, the remainder kept in storage as replacement/spares. Ideal bit of kit for the environment.

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicle Variants (Army)

What we really need is to speed up the MIV programme, build a version with either the Warrior or Ajax Turret and give the Ajax back to the Armoured Brigades. If we are careful we could equip the first Strike Brigade solely with an off the shelf 8x8 for around £800m, including all the variants often...

Re: Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (Army)

UK should stick SPIKE LR on an AJAX chassis to compliment CR2/AJAX 40MM until a CR2 replacement is identified. At least then the UK will have some stand-off capability in the event we see another conflict where heavy armour is not required (A-Stan for example). Isn't SPIKE LR already used by the UK ...

Re: General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper (UCAV) (RAF)

Confirmation the Protector UAV will be a Predator B or MQ-9 Reaper Batch 5 derivative according to FLIGHT GLOBAL.

In service date of 2020 means the sonar buoy option would be available.

Re: General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper (UCAV) (RAF)

The UK PM made references to a new drone called: Protector (not the unmanned water vehicle offering). Is this the upgraded Reaper with extended wings, external fuel tanks and improved landing gear? Flight duration improved to 70hrs +. Existing Reapers can be upgraded apparently and additional versio...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (Army)

Don't command vehicles have an additional communications fit and dummy main gun? Look the same on the battlefield, but the internal arrangement is better suited to command and control.

All they've done is hitched a trailer to the rear section, can't be that difficult!

Re: Scout SV Armoured Vehicle Variants (Army)

Another recent development of note is the sudden influx of new advanced Russian armour and AFV's, all of which will be offered up in the international market to help fund the programme. I for one am very glad the UK/French opted for 40mm cased ammunition, the marked improvement in range and penetrat...

Re: Scout SV Armoured Vehicle Variants (Army)

The expense of making Scout SV amphibious is not worth the extra cost. UK military doctrine does not advocate an amphibious landing against a fortified beachhead (Falklands for example, hence no direct attack against Stanley). Viking II can swim ashore to an uncontested beachhead from the Albion's t...
