According to navy lookout: on LBC this morning Grant Shapps has described the carriers as the biggest the RAF has ever had. Dear God have we really sunk so low!

I seem to remember reading that HMS Prince of Wales will also be doing F35 trials next year as she already has the Bedford array. SRVL should be included in these trials.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Aethelwulf, totally agree with all you say about RAS, even with the new transfer capabilities of the Tides and future FSS. I suspect the ability to launch F35 during RAS is more about CAP aircraft on alert 5 or 20 if needed and not about launching strike packages. Of course you wouldn't plan your RA...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Yes indeed that is true but is even that possible with CATOBAR carriers. Also with the double fuel lines now in use is a RAS always still going to be so time consuming?

Many thanks for that SKB. Not sure why they didn't load but maybe to do with being from the slide rule generation! Still shows that a RAS won't always stop fast jet flying from the carrier.

See navy lookout on twitter, 2 F35b landing at the same time. I may be wrong but I think that is something new. The CVS's surely were too small for this to happen and not seen the US navy do it with their LHD's.

Just to give you a heads up, check out Def Aero Report on youtube to watch an interview of Captain Steve Prest by Vago Muradian.
Captain Prest (who you may recognise from Britains biggest warship tv series) is now the Royal Navy type 31 frigate program director.
