It's just a covert way of locking down the IoW so that this trial with the tracking app can be tested properly... Having to use a carrier to counter the might of the I.o.W ferry? I had no idea the Red Funnel Line had such power! Presumably people remember the old joke "what's brown and s...

... is the ford class ready to rock and roll now all probs fixed Not really. Shock testing still hasn't been done as this was meant for hull #2 (79-Kennedy), due to the fact that they couldn't be sure if too much damage would occur on the first hull (78-Ford) and that would put back the list of fix...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

The popularity of the DAVE-B's must be spreading. Singapore has signed up for a squadron.
Potentially a good stopping point on a World Cruise to show the flag, and conduct some op's with the Singaporean AF?

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Don't forget a lot of testing has been done on land regarding take of weights, but there is nothing like the real thing. The additional variable of "wind over the deck" can't be done with a fixed runway. All of the data will be verified with the additional speed of the ship, adding to the...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

There will be more motion with a CAMM silo up forward on a smaller ship (Type23 for example), but I accept that vertical movement of the silo may need to be taken into account against the height at which the "cold launch" ends and the missile propellant ignites. Forward movement of the sh...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

India is focusing entirely on a 'built in India' policy, probably due to the rise in nationalism and how much of a disaster the previous CV purchase was/is. So, they could take it to an entirely new level of ineptitude with their DRDO (Defense Research Development Organization). A greater level of ...

I'm curious to know if Rosyth's basin is large enough to hold both carriers at the same time. Would PoW have to be temporarily moved out from the basin's J/K berths into the Firth of Forth's deep water channel to make room? Heaps of room in there and the tugs know what they are doing. Queenie would...

A planned 6 week period to clean the hull by the sounds of it, maybe retouch the paint? The timespan is about right for a waterblast and repaint of the hull (beneath the waterline).
