Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Thanks SKB...have realised why they're not uploading...they're all more than 2MB (average size is 7MB). Have uploaded to imgur as per suggestion... https://imgur.com/a/AzmIcn0?grid These were taken on Tuesday from the Staten Island Ferry. Apologies, I'm not a photographer so just snapped away (a loa...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Took the Staten Island Ferry on Tuesday which happily went straight past QECs mooring (is that the correct nautical term?).

Have loads of photos but not sure how to upload them from my laptop?

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Anyone know if the deck is going to be repainted? I still can’t quite get my head around how worn and weathered the deck looks...has done since she came out of Rosyth....what’s the deal with that?

Some nice shots of the deck (new orange arrows?) from a local news report...

Suggests the ship will sail on Sunday.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I wouldn’t bother, is pretty cack half way through. An hour long programme with approximately 67 secs of footage of QE. They recycle the same CGI and graphics and th format goes something like this... ‘The QE has propellers, let’s spend the next 10 minutes looking at why boats need propellers’... Ho...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Good photos. What’s the deal with the deck...why does it look like it’s at the end of its 50 year career rather than the beginning? Patchwork is the phrase that comes to mind.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Was flying in the area earlier and from a distance it looked like she was facing to the south when alongside. Could be completely wrong on this I was a little way away, it just looked that way.

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)

For these sorts of ferry trips they plan on the basis that the worst is going to happen....that one or more of the jets can’t hook up with the tanker (at the worst time) so need to divert to an alternate airfield. Sea states etc are a biggie (in the event that some of the crew end up in the drink).

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Good photo....what’s the platform directly in the middle of the shot (back rear right of ship)? Phalanx is back left, front left and front right, is that correct (apologies for non nautical terms)?

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I see PoW has been given the same tattoo treatment for her naming ceremony...I think its the font that's used that's offensive...it just looks...naff.

He's already been on BBC Breakfast....main points... - 5 hulls - cheaper than T26 (fixed price £250m to encourage exports) - first ship delivered in 2023 - modular construction at various UK yards encouraged - designed to be 'thrown away' (not his words) and replaced at the end of life rather than h...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

As has been said, the Italians are only buying 30 -B models (15 for air force, 15 for navy) in total so I'd be staggered if we ever see more than 8-10 deployed on Cavour/Trieste at any one time. Half a dozen F-35Bs and helos on Cavour/Trieste packs a good punch. The UK's initial buy of 48 is expecte...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I've heard a story about the 'R' but no idea as to accuracy. Someone told me that they were sailing with a navy chap around the Solent and enquired about the 'R'...the navy chap said that the 'R' is for 'recovery'.

Re: Type 26 Global Combat Ship [News Only]

Easy to see how we meet the '2% of GDP on defense' pledge. There should be some sort of measure for what we get for our 2%. Is the 'made in the UK' jobs premium getting out of hand?

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Some great footage, the drone shots are great. I have to say of all the great photos and footage, CJs shots brought the biggest smile of the day...thinking back to the earliest shots of the blocks arriving and now the ship in all its glory! A really nice way to book-end the build. Cracking job, CJ O...
