Westminster should agree to a second referendum but on the condition that the divorce settlement is agreed first. This agreement should include Scotland accepting a Barnett formula share of the UK's debts.

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
I've been out of town and just got back yesterday and sorting through a stack of mail to find the latest copy of Warship World. It contains a nice article by by Richard Scott on the Type 31 and, given the publishing date of the magazine, was written soon after the contract was announced. Anyhow a c...

Can’t see the defence budget going sub 2% of GDP whilst Brexit is still fresh in our minds and we are trying to get a US trade deal with Donald T. Nor can I see large scale projects like the SSBN replacement being scrapped. I can see some short term savings, early retirement of T23s, sell of a RFA ...

Jeez, this has flushed the English nationalists out. I would hardly call myself ( at least English ) nationalist, but that's just simple logical thinking. Let's face it, the genie is out of the bottle. 5 years ago, a few percents more and Scotland would be out. If the referendum is tomorrow, I'm pr...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
Personally I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that H&W is now closed permanently. Compared to Appledore the infrastructure is very impressive. With the T31, FSS and FLSS programmes still active, yards like H&W should have a bright future - if only HMG would back British industry and stop hid...

No. But, it's very important to have alternative English yards - especially as Northern Ireland could go as well.RetroSicotte wrote:No surprise.

Both Arrowhead and MEKO are in risk of resigning from the bid? Anyway, it looks very difficult to bid with fixed price, both HW and AP, they need to add up the survival cost until the actual build starts. Yes Cammell Laird, if lost the Leander bid, can help, but as it will be free bid process, I ca...

...until the Scottish question is sorted... When will it ever be sorted? It isn't going away time soon regardless of any IndyRef2. HMG needs to invest more in Scotland, not less. By slowing investment and delaying contracts you just play into the SNP's hands. If Scotland was to ever vote for indepe...

How does this sound; "Call it complex, mandate UK build, pay twice as much, have 2 fewer frigates." That is what all the comments above are advocating. Well, we could build everything abroad, export highly paid jobs, leaving Brits to work zero-hours contracts at McDonalds. Zero tax take m...

Didn't think we'd ever see that site re-emerge. I'm amazed. Thanks for posting Jensy. LMM is of course a Thales product, hence the inclusion. Mk 8 is of course now a Babcocks product, hence the inclusion. The build map seems a tad jaundiced now, the "all over UK" build strategy comes down...

Interesting example of the costs involved with building naval vessels indigenously, and the increased costs incurred.
